Mr. Ozigbo is the MD/CEO for Transcorp Hotels Plc, owners of Transcorp Hilton Hotels and Transcorp Hotels, Calabar. He was recently honoured at the Seven Stars Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards held in Marbella, Spain, as the Seven Stars CEO of the Year for the transformative works that have raised Transcorp Hilton to the no 1 luxury hospitality brand in Nigeria and top business hotel in Africa. He is an accomplished professional with over 21 years cognate experience, highly emotionally intelligent and demonstrable capacity to lead transformation. Apart from managing the two-hotel businesses of the Group, he is also leading over 5 new projects worth over $500m including the proposed Transcorp Hilton Lagos, Transcorp Hilton Port Harcourt, 5000-capacity multipurpose banqueting centre in Abuja, Transcorp luxury apartment in Abuja and upgrade of Transcorp Hilton Abuja. He took over helms at Transcorp Hotels in 2011 and the company has grown from strength to strength, including strengthening its corporate and credit standing, successful IPO listing in 2014, successful N20bn bond raising in 2015, and successful dual listing of the company’s bond in 2016. In 2015, the company won record 5 awards from the World Travel Awards, including Africa’s best business hotel (first of its kind for a hotel group in Nigeria). This year alone, the hotel in Abuja under his watch won for the first time ever Tripadvisor’s top 1% of global hotels in customers’ choice.
Prior to joining the hospitality industry in 2011, he had spent over 16 years as a banker and accountant with experiences in commercial, retail, investment and international banking. He is also a Chevening scholar and winner of various university and work place best student/staff awards. Among his core attributes are great leadership, relationship management, business transformation, quantitative, analytical, presentation and communication skills.
He was Keystone Bank’s (successor to Bank PHB) General Manager and Divisional Director in charge of Global Transaction Banking, covering all the products of the Bank, international business, correspondent banking relationships, global trade, bureau de change business and ebusiness. Before then, he was the Divisional Head of International Banking and Head of Global Strategic Alliances at United Bank for Africa Plc where he handled similar responsibilities, but including playing key roles in the expansion of UBA franchise in many countries. He has also worked with FSB Int. Bank Plc (now Fidelity) as Ag. Regional Manager for Abuja, Continental Trust Bank Ltd (now part of UBA) as pioneer Business Manager and Diamond Bank Plc in Warri.
He graduated from the Lancaster University, UK where bagged a Distinction in MSc Finance. His other educational qualifications include MBA in Banking & Finance and a BSc in Accounting both from the University of Nigeria (UNN) where he made the best result in both the department of Accounting and the faculty Business Administration (winning 6 prizes). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Institute of Credit Administration and the Institute of Tourism Professionals.
He has participated in many international seminars and debates including African Development Bank annual meetings in China, Lisbon etc, World Bank/IMF annual meetings in Washington DC, World Economic Forum in Davos and South Africa, Euromoney and Economist conferences in London, Euromoney debates on Capital Flows to Africa in London, and SIBOS (the world’s premier financial services event) in Hong Kong, among many others. He has also inter-phased with many regulators in many countries including the US Federal Reserve Board, the Dubai Financial Services Authority, COBAC, etc.
He is married to Ojiugo Ozigbo and together, they have 4 wonderful kids.
